Dr. Anthony Joseph
Dr. Anthony Joseph is certified in sports medicine and family practice since 1990. He has sports medicine experience at the high school, college and professional levels, and has been the team physician for Idaho State University for 18 years. Dr. Joseph received his medical degree from St. Louis University Medical School, and is the only member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine currently practicing in Southeast Idaho. He is also a member of the North American Spine Society since 2006 and the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine since 2008.
Advancements in computer technology and the ability to produce high-resolution ultrasound imaging has enabled surgeons to enter a damaged elbow or hip joint and pinpoint problems through a small opening. This allows for a minimally invasive treatment option for tendon and soft tissue injuries, such as tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, jumper’s knee, Achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis. Dr. Joseph received specialized training at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to learn the techniques necessary for ultrasound-assisted surgery. He is the only Sports Medicine Specialist in Idaho to use ultrasound to guide Tenex Health procedures on patients with joint issues and MANOS for carpal tunnel problems. Because the Tenex surgery can be done in the PCS Procedure Suite, expenses to the patient are reduced.
Dr. Joseph’s goal is to return patients with sports injuries to play as soon as possible. He will offer services to patients who have minor sprains, strains, or fractures. He offers spine care, epidural injections, and treatment for asthma, heart conditions and other problems unique to athletes. He also specializes in concussion management and hopes to develop a concussion referral center for Southeast Idaho. Dr. Joseph performs the following procedures in the PCS Procedure Suite: Elbow, shoulder, hip, groin, knee and hamstring Tenotomy. Achillles Tenotomy (TENEX), Fasciotomy, and Carpel Tunnel Release.
